Stress and Managers Performance: Age-Related Changes in Psychophysiological Reactions to Cognitive Load
نویسندگان
چکیده
Work ability of elderly managers may decrease probably due to a decreased cognitive flexibility. Moreover, cardiovascular reactivity to changing task demands might be less efficient in elderly. Younger (36-45 years) and elderly (49-60 years) German managers had to perform a switching task when they had to switch continuously between different rules of information processing or to use the same rule. Although the performance did not differ between groups, SBP was higher and HRV was lower in elderly. In addition, elderly showed an increased rigidity of cardiovascular function against changing task demands.

The Effects of Heart Rate Variability on Reading Performance among Iranian EFL Learners
Psychophysiological studies and MRI neuro-imaging findings provide evidence that heart rate variability (HRV) which is in control of our emotions affects our brain cognitive centers. It has been shown that coherent heart-brain interaction can change the pattern of the afferent cardiac input that is sent to the brain. For this purpose, the Institute of HeartMath (IHM) has proposed a kind of biof...

متن کاملPrevention of cognitive deficits and brain oxidative stress with superoxide dismutase/catalase mimetics in aged mice.
Continuous decline in cognitive performance accompanies the natural aging process in humans, and multiple studies in both humans and animal models have indicated that this decrease in cognitive function is associated with an age-related increase in oxidative stress. Treating aging mammals with exogenous free radical scavengers has generally been shown to attenuate age-related cognitive decline ...
